The first generation of Bekasi kids who grew up entirely inside a master-planned township are old enough to have opinions now. They also have complaints.

“It is safe. It is boring. It is us.”

What none of them want, they said in different ways, is a sanitized city. They want the smart-city convenience they were raised with, plus the messy heart of the older Bekasi.
